New Home

This is the corner of my street...an old restaurant covered in graffiti and surrounded by barbed wire. And the bums sleep in front of the furniture store on Santa Monica Blvd. Surprisingly, they haven't asked me for any money.

It made me happy to see this stop sign on my walk to work. I love culture jamming. (Click on the photo to get a better view...)

Katz's Crew Reunites!

The Katz's Crew has a new blog! Some of my favorite memories of NYC are hanging out with all the misfit cartoonists at Katz's Deli. The group fell apart as people started taking it for granted, not showing up, and moving away. Looks like we'll be sort of reuniting online with the new blog, thanks to Sean Taggart.

Off 2 Cali

Little did I know when I snapped this pic that I, too, would be "off 2 cali." I'm completely stressed out with it all. The movers are coming on Monday, and I'm doing what I can to be ready for them. My goal is to have 40 boxes packed up by the time they arrive. The funny thing is, I've got no idea where I'm gonna put all this stuff once I move. Sometimes I wonder why I have to have so much cool crap. I certainly live on my own planet.

Very soon, for the first time ever, you'll have the opportunity to buy one of the past Savage Monsters Secret Lairs! This one is located conveniently on the outskirts of Cleveland.

Day of the Dog

Once again, going through old files, I found this poster that I did when I was in college. I thought this was pretty cool when I did it. And it did win some kind of national student designer award or something. Looking at it now, I've got no idea why. Most of the type is pretty illegible. But I bet I thought it looked good on the computer screen when I was zoomed in 300%. And this is also when Adobe Illustrator introduced filters. You can tell that I loved "punk and bloat" and "twirl." And the dog was drawn with the mouse. All of a sudden, I feel really old.

Sad Transformation

One corner of my dining room office. The film canister and hotdogs were dumpster finds. A friend found the ice cream cone on the street.

The kitchen office. I found the Bud Light sign on the street. The art was done by my pal Sean Taggart, who did all the Jerky Boys album covers and promotional material for their movie back in the day.

Head on view of my command center in the dining room office. Protected by Underdog, Popeye and a surfing monkey. And if you're polite, I'll give you some stickers or temporary tattoos.

I've started packing up for the big move to LA. The Savage Monsters Secret Lair is slowly being transformed back into an average house. Just a bit sad. I enjoyed my living space. And originally planned to be here 5-10 years. In the back of my head, I knew it might not happen, so I was careful to not do anything too weird to the house. And, as one of my friends described my house, "it looks like there was a nice family of 4 was living here and you chopped them up and stacked them up like cord wood in the basement. Then you just put all your stuff over their stuff and started living here."

Soon, I'll be out in LA scouting out a new Secret Lair. I've been looking on line a little bit, but it's pretty hard to tell much about the places online. Once I get it all sorted out, I'm sure LA will be good for me.

And, instead of totally focusing on the move and packing, I took on a freelance gig. Normally, I don't do too much freelance, but I'll take on a fun gig when one crosses my path. And I couldn't resist doing an illustration of a litterbug for Las Vegas Weekly. And the art director there is really easy to work with. So I guess I've had a bit of fun in the midst of all the chaos.

Ice Cream Cone Day

I crap out more half baked ideas and artwork than I know what to do with. And more than I can remember. I have definitely got to get some kind of software to get rid of all the multiple copies of files on my computers and get rid of the bulk of older versions of stuff.
